About the experience:

A hands-on botanical art workshop for curious young artists aged 7–12. Learn how flowers are preserved, press your own blooms, and turn them into art.

What happens to a fresh flower when you press it? In this 3-hour workshop, your child will discover the basics of flower preservation and work with a selection of fresh, seasonal flowers. They will learn how flowers respond to pressing and how their colour, shape and texture can be preserved. Each child will prepare and press their own flowers, which will continue drying after the workshop and be mailed back to them approximately two weeks later.

Children will then explore the principles of botanical art and composition, including colour, balance, layering, focal points and negative space. Using a curated selection of professionally pressed flowers, they will design their own "My Secret Garden" and create an A4 framed pressed flower artwork to take home.

This is more than a craft activity. Children leave having learned a new hands-on skill, explored how nature can be preserved through art, and created a finished piece entirely of their own.

No previous art experience is required. The workshop is guided step-by-step, while children are encouraged to make their own creative choices and interpretation of their Secret Garden.

The workshop is led personally by Gladys, founder of Artlay Studio and featured on CNA938's Wellness Hour.
