About the experience:
This workshop introduces children to classic children’s stories and explores how illustrations bring stories to life. Using selected story texts, children learn how to imagine characters, settings, and emotions, and translate words into visual images — much like a storybook illustrator. Stories include The Happy Prince and Gulliver's Travels.
With step-by-step guidance, children are encouraged to interpret the story in their own way and make thoughtful creative choices in composition and illustration. Through this process, the workshop supports creative thinking and helps children understand how drawings can visually communicate a story.
Learning highlights:
Your child will learn how to translate written stories into visual illustrations by identifying key ideas, characters, and emotions from the text. They will develop composition skills to organise their drawings clearly while exploring visual storytelling techniques used in storybook illustration. This helps children strengthen their observation, interpretation, and communication skills, while building confidence in expressing their own ideas visually.
This workshop also encourages creative thinking, independent problem-solving, and a deeper appreciation for stories which are valuable skills for young learners and aspiring illustrators.
